The World English Bible (WEB), a freely available updated revision of the American Standard Version (ASV) 1901, distinguishes itself as one of the scarce public domain translations of the entire Bible presented in modern English. Produced by volunteers using the ASV as its foundational text, this translation project commenced in 1997 under the title American Standard Version 1997.
With a goal to provide an easily comprehensible English version accessible to a broad spectrum of readers worldwide, the WEB eliminates the necessity for data-processing specific internationalizations often found in other translations. This rendition does not merely aim to steer clear of copyrighted content or archaic language like the King James Version but maintains a distinctive approach by employing "Yahweh" instead of "Jehovah" in place of the Tetragrammaton within the Old Testament.
Adhering to the American Standard Version while incorporating elements from the Greek Majority Text and Hebrew Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, the WEB underwent meticulous editorial processes involving multiple rounds of editing. Moreover, significant efforts were made to enhance readability through punctuation and quotation marks, especially when faced with ambiguous textual variants or meanings.
The features of the WEB application include offline functionality, search capabilities, adjustable font sizes, multiple bookmarking options for verses and books, and a convenient scrolling feature using volume buttons. Continuous efforts are being made to expand the application's functionalities and user experience.
Each menu item corresponds to an individual book of the Bible, with each page representing a chapter within that book. By inputting chapter numbers directly, users can swiftly navigate to specific sections without the need for extensive scrolling.
